Music Sucks
Feb 27, 2008 by Nick
I hate to sound like my dad, but what the hell has happened to popular music? It was not that long ago that I could turn on the radio and hear some great artists in their primes. I could hear music that meant something and would transcend genre and time. I am talking about groups like Van Halen, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Artists like Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, and Bruce Springsteen. I understand that these people may not fit into the format of radio stations these days. Time waits for no one and room has to be made for the up and coming bands of today. I guess my question is who are the bands on the radio that are going to carry the torch for the next 20 years? Are they really going to stand the test of time?
For example, is some 15 year old kid really going to be sitting around in 20 years saying, “Boy, I really miss the good old days of music when I could hear a really good band like Fall Out Boy.” It really seems far fetched to me but maybe I am just old fashioned or close minded. When I listen to their music it seems soulless and the only thing worse than the sound might be the titles of their songs. Maybe you are not familiar with Fall Out Boy and some of their steller material. I encourage you to try out some of their songs. May I suggest some of these rock nuggets:
- Thnks Fr Th Mmrs
- Carpal Tunnel of Love
- I’m Like A Lawyer With The Way I Am Always Trying To Get You Off
and don’t forget the rock classic, I Slept With Someone In Fallout Boy and All I Got was This Stupid Song Written About Me.
If you are familiar with this future Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band then you are already familiar with these titles. If you are not familiar with them these really are song titles. Now I am not saying every song written needs to be the next Like A Rolling Stone, but come the fuck on! Is that really the best you can do? Is anyone really going to look back on these these steaming piles of shit they call songs and think they have any redeeming qualities at all? Oh well, maybe I am getting all worked up over nothing. I guess I will just look to country music and hip hop for songs that will stand the test of time. I already have a few in mind that I think we will never forget.
Honky Tonk Badonkadonk by Trace Adkins
Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off by Joe Nichols
Get Crunk by Lil Jon
Big Shit Poppin’ by T.I.
I Miss My Dawgs by Lil’ Wayne
I am sure we all look back someday and say they don’t make music like they did in 2008.
Later,
Nick
