The Boss

It had not even been 2 weeks since I witnessed a nasty Black Crowes concert when Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band rolled into town for a concert at Conseco Fieldhouse. In my old age I try and steer clear of arena shows, but I am pretty sure Springsteen will not be playing any clubs around here anytime soon so I headed out with my dad 24 years after he took me to see Springsteen the 1st time, and I am sad I waited 24 years to see him and his nasty band a second time.

Bruce is nearly 60 years old and age has not diminsished his ability to put on a rock show second to none. The band hit the stage at 8:30 and did not leave until they had played 25 songs 2 1/2 hours later. He even took requests from the crowd. How many arena rock acts have the ability to do that? The E-Street Band is one the greatest road bands of all time and they proved it that night. They create a wall of sound that would make Phil Spector jealous. More than 2/3 of the concert they were using a quadruple guitar attack along with dueling keyboard players and a mighty rhythm section. The band played some of Springsteens greatest songs that are absolute arena anthems and had the entire arena on their feet for all 2 1/2 hours. There were several times when Bruce did not even sing because the crowd was singing for him. The highlight of the concert was an absolutely ferocious version of “Because The Night” where Nils Lofgren broke off a solo as mean as any I have seen in years. Check out the set list below to see all of the great songs they played that night and also check out the video of “Because The Night” that was filmed a couple of weeks ago in Montreal. I encourage anyone reading this to see this band the next chance you get, you will not regret it. Bruce Springsteen is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for a reason and if you don’t take an opportunity to check out his show live you owe it to yourself to check out some of the great albums he has released over the years, otherwise you are a dumbass.
