RM Shuffle for January 21, 2010

Hi Rolla’s,

This is my random iPod shuffle of the week. These are some great songs that have been blaring through my buds lately and I wanted to share with you all. I feel a lot of these songs have been over looked or forgotten over the years, and I wanted to bring them back to your brain…or maybe introduce them to you for the first time. These are some great tunes and worthy of a listen while treadmill walkin’.

The American Ruse – MC5

MC 5 formulated in 1964 out of Michigan. In my humble opinion they are one of the most over-looked bands in Rock and Roll. Without MC5 there are no Ramones, Sex Pistols, or White Stripes. Listening to their music today it still sounds fresh and relevant …because it is!

Blank Generation – Richard Hell and the Voidoids

This song is one of the songs that started the whole mid 70’s New York Underground movement. From a generation that was busted by Viet Nam and broke do to a gas shortage and recession, the New York Punk scene screamed with a middle finger at Middle America, “We are the Blank Generation”

I want to take you higher – Sly and the Family Stone

Rolling Stone recently named Sly and the Family Stone as one of the top 10 most important bands in rock and roll history. They rocked out Woodstock, gave rise to a new form of music (Motown mixed with a little Blues and British Invasion). This song just groves and showcases the band at the peak of their creativity.

God of Thunder – Kiss

You may or may not know but I am a huge Kiss fan. And I go through my spurts of what I listen to when it comes to Kiss. I think this is one of their most groovin’ bass lines and a song really rocks.

Band of Gold – Freda Payne

To me, this is one of the top 50 songs of all time. It’s a song of heartbreak, hurt, and loved loss, pretty much a modern summary of pop music. Yet, Freda sings it so soulfully and angelic, if you didn’t listen to the words, you would think it was a love song.
