For those of you who didn’t know, Nick wrote an article for the Indianapolis Star’s Metromix. It’s a great article about one of my new favorite bands, Truth and Salvage Company. Everyone needs to check it out at the link below and help support Rock Minutes’ only published author and new celebrity, Nick Dalton.

Congrats from the Rock Minutes staff and its readers!

This week I decided to give you some 80′s jams that I like. For better or worse the 1980′s is the decade that I first started listening to music. It is nothing to be proud of but there was some good music in the 80′s. Even if it is not good I have a soft spot for some of these songs because they represent some of my earliest musical memories.

Martin Briley – Salt in My Tears

I know absolutely nothing about this guy but I love this obscure 80′s rocker to this day. It has some really big cheesy guitar riffs along with some typical 80′s drums. You are welcome for me turning you onto this beauty.

In the past, I have written articles about my dislike for the current musical trends on Top 40 radio, my dislike of the New Country Genre, and trying to find a radio station playing new music for my demographic (the 30-something white guy crowd that grew up listening to Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Beatles, Kiss and Ozzy). These have been bitch sessions for sure, but now I want to bring it all together.

Top 40 radio, or music marketed for middle class-suburbanite teens, has gone to the extreme fringe, not too different than the current state of our political system. Top 40 radio has gone either left or right, with no middle. It’s either really R and B or a Hip Hop driven sound; or a 3 days Grace new metal sound. Top 40 radio has abandoned the middle crossroads of music, what was once known as adult contemporary. With adult contemporary having no place to be heard on top 40 radio, the adult contemporary genre did the next logical thing and converted into the new country genre.

This might be the greatest music video since Thriller. You can kill two birds with one stone with this video. You not only get to hear a great song by Ryan Adams but you also get to learn how to disco dance. I have personally used these moves on the dance floor and they paid off.
