Browsing the RM Shuffle category...

This weeks version of the shuffle was inspired my buddy Josh. We were talking last week about a a certain guitar sound that we love. It is a sound that is typically found in country songs and seems to usually be played by a Telecaster. There might be a technical name for this sound, neither of us know what that name would be, but we both agreed we know when we hear it without question. So hear are 5 songs that feature that sound.

Buck Owens – Act Naturally

Buck will always be known as the architect of the “Bakersfield Sound”. Don Rich was Owens’ sidekick who provided the nasty guitar and harmonies you hear on this song. Unfortunately Don was killed in a motorcycle wreck in 1974 and Owens, in my opinion, never sounded the same.

Dwight Yoakam – Guitars, Cadillacs

It would make sense that Dwight Yoakam would make this list considering he was and is a disciple of Buck Owens. This was pretty much the song that Yoakam on the map and he defitinely has that distinctive sound on this song.

Deer Tick – Twenty Miles

I just bought the new Deer Tick album (for $3.99 on Amazon) about 2 hours ago and I already love it. Right now “Twenty Miles” is the early favorite for me. After buying the last 2 albums from this band I am officially a fan. Few things make me as excited as discovering a new great band.

Elvis Presley – In The Ghetto

After being in Nashville and hearing some great Elvis stories I have been listening to some Elvis and this is one of my favorite Elvis songs. If you are looking to buy an Elvis Presley album I suggest getting “From Elvis in Memphis”. It is worth it for this song and “Suspicious Minds” alone.

As you read and listen to this shuffle I am in Nashville, Tennessee. Since I am in Nashville I thought it would be a good time to do a countrified version of the weekly shuffle. Here are some of my favorite country songs.

Buck Owens-Act Naturally

Buck Owens was a country music pioneer and was the godfather of the “Bakersfield Sound”. If you do not know about the Bakersfield Sound you are quite possibly an asshole. If you don’t think Buck Owens is cool you are wrong. Dwight Yoakam and the Beatles both do great versions of this song but Buck’s version is the best.

The Eagles – In The City

I am not a huge Eagles fan but I do like what Joe Walsh brought to the table when he joined the Eagles. “In The City” is my favorite song from “The Long Run” and might be my overall favorite song of the Eagles. Great guitar work from Walsh on this cut.

The Rolling Stones – Plundered My Soul

You should have known you would see a Rolling Stones song this week. This song is off of the newly re released “Exile on Main Street”. This is one of the bonus songs from the album and once you give it a listen you will see if fits in real nicely with the rest of the original album.
